About the Skilling Laboratory
About the Skilling Laboratory
The Skilling Laboratory is a hands-on learning environment within Stanford University's Aeronautics & Astronautics department. We provide space, tools, equipment, and opportunities for students, instructors, and researchers to explore ideas, develop practical engineering skills, and bring projects to life.
The laboratory supports undergraduate and graduate education by embedding practical, project-based experiences into the curriculum. Through making, experimentation, and prototyping, students can apply engineering principles, test ideas, and develop solutions to complex challenges.
A Place to Learn, Make, and Collaborate
Skilling is designed to support curiosity, initiative, and hands-on discovery. Our flexible teaching spaces and shared resources allow users to move from ideation to prototyping, testing, and iteration.
The laboratory provides access to a range of tools and technologies, including hand tools, additive manufacturing systems, laser cutting, and other prototyping equipment. These resources support the development of technical, creative, and practical engineering skills.
Beyond equipment and workspace, Skilling is a shared community environment. We encourage collaboration, peer learning, mentorship, and the exchange of ideas across the Aeronautics & Astronautics community.
Supporting the Future of Aerospace Engineering
The Skilling Laboratory contributes to the education of future aerospace engineers and leaders by helping students develop the confidence and practical experience to apply what they learn.
Through hands-on teaching, learning, and research, we support the integration of engineering knowledge with the skills needed to design, build, test, and improve solutions with real-world impact.
